Emergency contraception is a pill that reduces the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex. Emergency contraception must be taken within 120 hours (five days) after unprotected intercourse to avoid pregnancy, but the sooner it is taken, the more effective it will be. It will not harm an existing pregnancy.

  • Plan B: All students 17 or older, regardless of gender, may purchase Plan B from the pharmacy without a prescription. Plan B is provided free to students who qualify for CCare or following a sexual assault. Plan B loses effectiveness if taken more than 72 hours after intercourse. Plan B is less effective for people over 165 lbs/70 kg.
  • Ella: Ella requires a prescription from a medical provider. It is much more effective than Plan B between 48 and 120 hours after sex. Ella is less effective for people over 195 lbs/88 kg.

Emergency contraception is available without an appointment. Just call or come in, and a nurse will assist you. The cost will be billed to your student account. For accurate and up-to-date cost information, please contact us directly.

Emergency contraception is provided for free to students enrolled in the CCare program or following a sexual assault.

You can still enroll in CCare! After you complete a visit with a provider at Student Health, we bill your health insurance first and then CCare second. CCare covers the remaining balance of all CCare eligible charges after your insurance has processed your charges.
If you have concerns about your privacy, you can request confidential billing, and no charges will be pushed to your health insurance. If you receive any services not covered by CCare, they will be charged to your student account instead of your health insurance.

You can still make an appointment with Student Health Services. There is no charge for most office visits. Your care team will discuss any services (medications, labs or procedures) that may have a cost. We recommend you check with your insurance provider on coverage options.

If you already have a method of contraceptive that works for you, great! You can enroll with the CCare program, and let your provider know your preferred contraceptive method. They will make sure it still works for you and ask if you have any questions, and you can receive it for free through Student Health Services at no cost if you qualify.

We understand there are circumstances where students may be concerned for their privacy when seeking out contraceptives. We offer confidential consultations and reproductive healthcare services for your privacy. Confidential billing is also offered at the time of enrollment.

You can change your billing preferences at any time. If you initially requested that we bill your health insurance, you can contact the CCare office to fill out a new form requesting confidential billing. This means that all CCare eligible services will not be billed to your health insurance but instead, will go directly to CCare. To request this updated billing preference, call 541-737-9140.

CCare does not retroactively cover visits. This means that if you did not complete your CCare enrollment on the same day as your visit, CCare will not cover any of those services. You have to be active on the program to be covered.

You can enroll the same day you receive services; however, it is preferred that students enroll in advance of receiving services to avoid any lapse in coverage.
