Health Fee
All OSU students taking a one or more credit hours are charged a health fee each term of the academic year in which they are enrolled. The fee is also charged to students taking classes in summer term. Students who are not taking summer classes but who were enrolled the previous term may elect to pay the health fee in order to access SHS during the summer session.
The student health fee is determined by SHS Administration in consultation with the Student Fees Committee, the Student Senate, and the Oregon State Board of Higher Education. These funds cover an estimated 85% of the SHS budget. It entitles students to use all services and programs of SHS and it covers the following:
- Most visits to an SHS practitioner
- Most visits to the Health Promotion Department
- Two free nutritional consultations per year
Fees for Services
Student Health Services (SHS) is a self-supporting, fee-based department of the University, housed within the Division of Student Affairs. Our annual budget comes from two sources: the student health fee included in each term's tuition and fees statement, and the user fees charged for some services, procedures and supplies at SHS. This combination of funding sources has proved a fair distribution of support between all students who pay the general health fee and student users who may be charged fees to cover expenses not provided by the health fee. Copies of the user fee schedule are located in the main lobby, or you may call SHS at 737-WELL (9355) to find out the fee for a specific service, procedure or supply.
User fees are charged for:
- Missed appointments which are not canceled before the scheduled time
- Supplies, treatments, and pharmacy prescriptions
- Laboratory and X-Ray procedures
- Visits to consulting specialists at SHS
- Sports medicine supplies
- Physical Therapy treatments
- Allergy procedures

Payment and Reimbursement
All charges can be either billed to the student account or paid for at the time of service. SHS bills the OSU student insurance providers directly (Chickering or PacificSource), but is not adequately staffed to provide this service for students who are covered by other insurance companies. Students may request a copy of their bill on the day services are rendered or request that the statement be mailed.
