Fees for Services
- Frequently Asked Questions about Billing (PDF)
- What Are the Reasons for the Mandatory Health Fee? (PDF)
Which services cost or do not cost money at Student Health Services (SHS) can be a confusing issue. The OSU Health Fee is included in your tuition each term, giving you access to the clinic. With these fees come many services available to enrolled students at no additional charge, including:
- Routine visits with SHS physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
- Visits with SHS psychiatrist (with referral from SHS clinician)
- Annual exams (excludes pap smear and other labs)
- Wellness exams
- Tobacco cessation services
- Nutrition consults with a registered dietitian
- Health Coaching services
- Access to health and wellness web resources, including HealthyLifeTM Students’ Self-Care Guide
- Health Promotion outreach programming and events
- Nurse advice by phone, both during business hours and after hours
- Toll-free long distance access SHS (1-877-824–9355)
What the Health Fee Does Not Cover
There are some services at SHS that are not included in the health fee and for which you would incur additional charges. However, most services are provided at lower than community cost. Although prices are always subject to change, some of the costs of services for which you would be charged are:
- Lab tests, X-rays, EKG and spirometry
- Immunizations and allergy shots
- Travel appointments
- Visits to a consultant: dermatologist, surgeon, gynecologist or orthopedist
- Acupuncture, chiropractic services and massage therapy
- Physical therapy
- Procedures such as ear irrigation, sutures/wound care, wart removal, etc.
- Physicals (Concorde, Immigration, Pre-Employment, Peace Corps, etc.)
- Pharmacy prescriptions
- Supplies (bandages, splints, braces, crutch rental, SAD light rental, etc.)
- Missed appointments that are not canceled before scheduled time
Payment and Reimbursement
All charges are either billed to the student account or you may request to pay for that service by coming to the Billing Office at the time of service. Please note, any services including lab charges will take two to three weeks to be available for payment or itemized billing statements. SHS bills the OSU student insurance providers directly (Aetna Student Health or PacificSource Graduate Assistant Plan), but is not adequately staffed to provide this service for students who are covered by other insurance companies. Students may submit a Request for Itemized Billing Statement to request a copy of their bill be mailed to them. On average it takes two or three weeks to process these requests as lab results can take up to two weeks to come in. (Learn how to fill out the HCFA-1500 form you will receive.) Please note that prescription charges will not be included in your billing as SHS Billing Office does not have access to those records. You will have to request those directly from the OSU Pharmacy.
If you have specific questions about billing procedures, call the SHS Billing office at 541-737-2068; for questions about OSU insurance reimbursement procedures or coverage, call the SHS insurance liaison at 541-737-7568.

Student Health Services is not an Oregon Health Plan provider. Students who are on the Oregon Health Plan and have paid the OSU health fee may still come to SHS for their office visits, which are covered by their OSU health fee. However, any additional services that incur a charge are the responsibility of the patient.
