All About Pedometers

pedometer

What is a pedometer?

  • A device that estimates how many steps you have taken based on the number of hip swings and foot strikes performed
  • Conceptualized by Leonardo DaVinci in the 15th century

Why use a pedometer?

  • Provides immediate feedback, giving you information on your activity level
  • Serves as an environmental tool that reminds you to be active

When should I wear my pedometer?

  • ALL THE TIME!
  • (Except when you are sleeping! J)

*Please note: The pedometer is NOT waterproof

How Do I use my Pedometer?

  • Put your pedometer on in the morning IMMEDIATELY after you get dressed
  • Clip the step counter to your belt or waistband directly over your knee OR at the side of your hip - which ever feels most comfortable
  • Reset the counter to zero by pressing the yellow button
  • You can check the pedometer throughout the day by unlatching the clasp BUT remember to close the lid so it will continue counting your steps
  • (The pedometer will NOT count steps with the lid open!)
  • Record your daily steps before going to bed
