Program Basics

 

Beaver Strides is a fitness program for every lifestyle

No matter whether you are just getting started on the road to physical fitness, are interested in "improving your move", or are just looking for something new, Beaver Strides has a program for you. There are several options for participants to choose from.

Campaigns and Events

Keep an eye out for these throughout the term. Information will be sent out via the listserv. Some things we've done in the past include:

  • Up-the-Down Stairs

  • Walk to Campus Week
  • Fun Walks
  • Walking Errands Week
  • Corvallis Cleanup Week

Tracking Your Physical Activity

Research has shown that tracking your activities is one of the best ways to maintain consistency and to make exercise a lifelong habit. Whether you are looking to kickstart your program, try someting new or make a lifestyle change, the Beaver Strides tracking booklet will help you to log your progress.

 

Step Challenges

These challenges are designed for those looking to spice things up with a little healthy competition. Participants check out pedometers and compete against one another to see who can log the most steps over a predetermined period of time. Participants can sign up for one of our individual challenges or can sign up with a group (club, organization, living group etc.) Challenges usually run for two weeks but additional arrangements can be tailored to.

Around the World

This is a lengthier program emphasizing gradual lifestyle changes. To make it fun, we ask you to choose a virtual destination such as:

  • Lihue, Hawaii
  • Athens, Greece
  • Quito, Ecuador
  • Sydney, Australia

Then:

  • You keep track of your activities throughout the term and convert them to Beaver Strides Miles.
  • Walking, swimming, biking, drinking water and/or eating fruits and vegetables can accumulate Beaver Strides Miles.
  • Please see the Beaver Strides Miles conversion chart for a complete list of activities.
  • At the end of the term, you will receive the Beaver Strides reward depending on how many miles you've traveled.
  • We also offer a four week verison of this program for OSU groups. Call 737-2775 for more information.

 

Goal Setting

Each week, you will set a realistic goal to accomplish. These goals will help motivate you and guide you towards your final destination.
