skipping periods with birth control

Question: i have a question on skipping periods.. ok -if i didnt want to get my period, all i have to do is keep taking a new pack of birth control right after i finish one right? also , how long can i do this for? and is it harmful? thank you

Answer: Yes, to skip your period, you can just skip over the placebo pills and start a new pack right away. This doesn't guarantee that you won't get your period, and you may experience a light period or spotting. It is generally considered "safe" to do this, however, you should discuss it with your provider. Together you can develop a cycle that will work for you (for example, having your period every other month or every three months).
