A. Is the blood coming out in your semen? Hematospermia, literally, blood in the semen, is a relatively common occurrence that is usually transient and insignificant. It can, however, be a harbinger of conditions that need to be treated, such as infection of the seminal vesicles or prostate gland. Less likely, it could be an early sign of prostate cancer. The guidelines to consider whether it's time to be evaluated by your health care provider are: (1) whether you have found blood in more than 10 ejaculates or (2) whether this has occurred for two months or longer. If either of these two criteria fit your situation, then it's medically advisable that you see your health care provider.
