Alcohol & Other Drugs: Prescription Medication

Q: Is Carisoprodol the same thing as Oxi Codine??

A: Carisoprodol is a more mild muscle relaxant and is used to relieve pain and discomfort caused by strains, sprains, and other muscle injuries. Oxycodone is a strong opioid agonist (comparable to morphine) that is available alone or in combination with mild analgesics. With the exception of hallucinations, which may occur more rarely after oxycodone than after morphine, the side effects of these drugs are closely related. There is potential for the abuse of both drugs but the strength of Oxycodone is equivalent to that of morphine. Since both can be habit forming they should be used on a short-term basis only.- Spot (July 17, 2003)
