Alcohol & Other Drugs: Prescription Medication

Q: I took 7 mg. of klonopin (benzodiazapem) at 11:50 P.M. on tuesday night. I have a urine analysis test which will be given to me on monday evening (5 1/2) days later at 5:30 p.m. My probabtion dept. uses the instant cups which give you your results in 5 minutes time right on the spot. Will I test clean?

A: Klonopin can remain detectable in the body for a considerable amount of time. There are cases in which it is detectable a month or more later; only your test will be able to give you that answer.
However, this is not a drug of abuse and therefore would not likely be tested for in your drug screening. Nonetheless, if you are taking it, you should be sure to inform your probation officer and the tester of your current medications. This communication could prevent and discrepancies in your testing procedure and results. –Spot (April 7, 2003)
